2026 Nissan Rogue PHEV: First Nissan Plug-In Hybrid for the US at 248 HP

Nissan is bringing its first plug-in hybrid to the United States, and it chose the Rogue to carry it. The 2026 Rogue PHEV pairs a 2.4-liter gas engine with two electric motors for a combined 248 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. A 20 kWh battery provides 38 miles of all-electric range (EPA estimated), while total combined range stretches to 420 miles. Intelligent All-Wheel Drive comes standard across both available trims: SL and Platinum.

The timing matters. Nissan discontinued the Ariya, its dedicated electric crossover, leaving a gap in its electrified lineup. The Rogue PHEV fills that gap with a more pragmatic approach: keep the gas engine for range anxiety, add enough battery for daily commutes, and wrap it in Nissan's best-selling nameplate.

🔌 Three Modes, One Strategy

The PHEV offers three selectable driving modes: EV, Save, and Charge. EV mode runs pure electric until the battery depletes. Save mode preserves battery charge for later use (useful for city driving at the end of a highway trip). Charge mode uses the engine to actively replenish the battery. At 64 MPGe in EV mode and 26 mpg on gas, the numbers tell a familiar PHEV story: great efficiency in short bursts, average economy on long hauls.

Level 2 charging takes 7.5 hours for a full battery. No DC fast charging was announced, which limits the usefulness of the EV range for anything beyond overnight home charging.

Seven Seats and Familiar Tech

The Rogue PHEV retains the three-row, seven-passenger layout with up to 64.7 cubic feet of cargo space. Inside, a 12.3-inch driver display and 9-inch touchscreen handle the interface, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Platinum trim adds a 10-inch head-up display.

At 248 hp with AWD, the Rogue PHEV competes directly with the Toyota RAV4 Prime (302 hp, 42 miles EV range) and the Ford Escape PHEV (210 hp, 37 miles EV range). It splits the difference on power and matches on electric range, but the seven-seat configuration gives it a footprint advantage neither competitor offers.

Nissan hasn't announced pricing, but the current Rogue starts at $32,000. Expect the PHEV to land in the $38,000-$45,000 range when it arrives at dealerships in 2026.
