Audi introduced the fifth generation of the A6, known as the C8 generation, in 2018 and reserved the unveiling of the S6 version for the following year, in the summer of 2019.

Audi introduced a mid-life cycle refresh for the A6 range and involved the S6 version in the process, creating an even faster station wagon for the S6 Avant.

With the world financial crisis over and the re-shaped economy rising, Audi rushed to offer a new S version for the fourth generation of the A6 Avant.

The 2008 Audi S6 Avant combined three attributes: a big trunk, a luxurious interior, and a supercar engine, resulting in a fast station wagon that could put many sportscars behind.

Following the launch of the second generation of the A6 station-wagon in 1998, Audi introduced the more powerful version S6 Avant in 1999, along with the S6 Sedan.

Audi renamed the last generation of the 100 Avant as A6 Avant when it introduced its facelifted version in 1994, and it also offered it with a sportier version named S6 Avant.

While the RS6 was available only as a station wagon, the S6 remained the fastest production A6, and it was subtle enough to be overlooked but hardly overtaken.

The 2008Audi S6 was more like a four-door Lamborghini than an Audi A6 with a big engine, transforming it into a sports sedan.

The S6 was always a badge to be considered when talking about fast Audis, and the 2006 model was no exception from that rule. It was a supercar with a regular, taxi-like, bodywork.

Following the launch of the second generation of the A6 sedan in 1997, Audi introduced the more powerful version S6 two years later. It was not only a badge on the trunk and a new set of wheels. It was a sedan that could run a heist.

In the mid-'90s, Audi started to rename its cars from the former 80, 100 or 200 into A4, A6 or A8. In 1994, the top performance model for the newly A6 range was named S6.
