title: "CATL Holds 49.1% of China Battery Market in Feb 2026, LG Surges in Ternary" slug: catl-battery-market-share-feb-2026 date: 2026-03-14 category: industry tags: [catl, byd, battery, lg, industry, china] source_url: "https://cnevpost.com/2026/03/13/top-battery-makers-china-share-feb-2026/"
CATL maintained 49.10% of China's power battery market in February 2026 with 12.90 GWh of installations. BYD held second at 13.56% (3.56 GWh). CALB rounded out the top three at 6.00% (1.58 GWh).
The data from the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA) shows CATL's share declining 0.69 percentage points month-over-month, while BYD dropped a sharper 3.87 points.
The LG Energy Solution Surge
The standout is LG Energy Solution jumping 21.72 percentage points in the ternary (NCM/NCA) battery segment to capture 24.86% share (1.42 GWh). CATL's ternary share fell 15.46 points to 66.24% (3.78 GWh). LG's surge likely reflects increased supply to specific OEM programs rather than a structural shift, but it's the largest monthly swing in the ternary segment in recent memory.
LFP Breakdown
In the LFP segment, which accounts for the majority of Chinese EV batteries, CATL climbed 3.71 points to 44.35% (9.12 GWh). BYD fell 5.11 points to 17.33% (3.56 GWh). CALB gained 1.54 points to 6.78% (1.39 GWh).
BYD's LFP decline is notable because the company manufactures its own Blade Battery cells. A 5-point drop suggests either lower vehicle production in February (consistent with the Chinese New Year slowdown) or inventory adjustments ahead of the second-generation Blade Battery rollout announced March 5.
CATL's near-majority control of the overall market and dominant ternary position reinforce its leverage over every major Chinese EV manufacturer except BYD.
