NIO has introduced two new Horizon Edition themes for the ET9, each limited to 199 units at 818,000 yuan ($118,700) with battery or 710,000 yuan under the battery-as-a-service model. The base ET9 starts at 768,000 yuan.
The limited editions continue a pattern. Since its December 2024 launch, NIO has released a Horizon Edition in September 2025, new theme colors in November 2025, and a nine-unit edition in January 2026 marking NIO's one-millionth vehicle. Every few months, a new variant appears.
The Sales Reality
Cumulative ET9 deliveries through February 2026 total 2,722 units. Monthly figures tell the story: 810 units peaked in April 2025, followed by a steady decline to 59 units in January 2026 and 64 in February. For a flagship sedan priced above 750,000 yuan, these are modest volumes.
The monthly cadence throughout 2025 (89, 89, 89, 810, 682, 307, 85, 92, 90, 127, 118, 198) shows a launch spike followed by a sharp and sustained drop. Limited editions create social media moments, but 199 units at a time won't materially change the ET9's sales trajectory.
At this price point, NIO competes against the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class, and domestic competitors like the IM L6. The challenge isn't visibility. It's convincing buyers that an 818,000 yuan NIO offers equivalent ownership value to established luxury flagships.
