NIO and Tuhu Car Inc, China's largest independent auto service platform with over 150 million registered users, have signed a strategic partnership covering user operations and full-lifecycle vehicle services. The agreement applies only to the main NIO brand, excluding sub-brands Onvo and Firefly.
The partnership integrates online and offline resources, with plans to explore exclusive perks spanning lifestyle and travel convenience. NIO frames it as extending from product services to lifestyle upgrades.
Why Tuhu?
Tuhu's 150 million registered users represent a massive distribution channel for NIO's service ecosystem. For NIO buyers, Tuhu's network of physical service locations adds convenience for maintenance, tires, and other aftermarket needs beyond NIO's own service centers.
The exclusion of Onvo and Firefly suggests different service strategies for NIO's value-oriented and compact brands, which likely require lower-cost service solutions.
Timing
The partnership follows NIO's first-ever quarterly profit (reported the week prior) and the approaching delivery of its 80,000th third-generation ES8. With the high-margin ES8 driving profitability and the ES9 flagship coming in Q2 2026, NIO is building the service infrastructure to support a growing installed base. Partnering with an established platform is faster and cheaper than building equivalent aftermarket capability in-house.
