Sony Honda Mobility showed the production-ready AFEELA 1 at CES 2026 and confirmed what matters: California deliveries begin late 2026, starting from AFEELA Studio and Delivery Hubs opening in Torrance and Fremont in spring. Arizona follows in 2027. Japan gets the car in the first half of 2027.
The AFEELA 1 is a joint venture between Sony and Honda that has been in development since 2022. The sedan arrives in three exterior colors (Calm White, Tidal Gray, Core Black) with a Level 2+ driver assistance system branded "AFEELA Intelligent Drive." The company aims for Level 4-equivalent capabilities in future software updates, powered by a conversational AI called "AFEELA Personal Agent" running on Microsoft Azure OpenAI.
The PlayStation Question
Sony's involvement means entertainment integration is central to the pitch. The AFEELA 1 features a unique sound system and optimized displays designed for content consumption, with PlayStation Remote Play functionality confirmed. The Android-based infotainment system handles the interface. Whether passengers actually play Gran Turismo during their commute remains to be seen, but the hardware will support it.
⚡ AFEELA Prototype 2026: The SUV
CES also brought the world premiere of the AFEELA Prototype 2026, a larger vehicle offering "greater spatial flexibility and accessibility" than the sedan. Sony Honda targets a production version for the US market as early as 2028. No specs were disclosed for either vehicle: no horsepower, no battery capacity, no range, no pricing.
The absence of hard numbers at this stage is unusual for a car entering production within the year. Most competitors (Lucid, Rivian, Polestar) revealed full specifications months before delivery windows opened. Sony Honda's approach suggests either the numbers aren't final or the company is betting that brand experience matters more than a spec sheet to its target buyer. That buyer, presumably, is someone who cares more about what Sony brings to the car than what Honda puts under it.
